I first read the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series when I was a teenager, and have always wondered what happened to these four friends. Did they stay close? Did they get married or have children? In this novel, Brashares answers these questions in a bittersweet way that might leave some readers wishing they had stopped after the fourth book. Just make sure you have your box of tissues ready! The book opens when the girls are on the verge of turning thirty.The girls have changed over the ten years since we’ve last seen them just like anyone would, and it is shown in the book. All of them have boyfriends, but none are married. They are all still friends, but only because phones and emails keep them together. They are spread out from San Fransisco to New York to Rhode Island all the way to Australia, and they seem to have trouble staying in touch, especially Tibby who ran off to Australia with Brian, not telling her friends she was going until she was gone.

Then Tibby sends each of them a plane ticket to meet at Lena’s family home in Greece, and the girls jump at the chance to meet up. Carmon, a glamorous actress, Lena, a moderateley successful artist, and Bridget, a wanderer who lives with Eric in California, are ready for their break from reality and their reunion with their friends. Then tragedy strikes, and the girls who survive are left wondering how well they truly know each other or themselves. Grief stricken, the girls struggle to find out how they can possible move on without one of their own.

The fifth book in the series stands alone, though without reading them, you might not grasp the true emotional intensity of the events that occur. Readers of the series will be more than satisfied with the ending to the story, though it leaves you a bit teary eyed. I highly recommend this book for lovers of the Sisterhood! You will not be disappointed!

I have felt the power of music in my life since I was a very young piano student. Now, in my mature years, that power has increased a thousand times. I cannot live without music, daily. Music expresses my joys, my sorrows, my dreams, and my faith in God. What I intuitively know, scientists around the world are independently proving by research. The book, The Power of Music, tells of research by various genre of scientists whose subjects include people groups from a wide range of cultures. These subjects represent all levels of musicianship, from nil to highly sophisticated. This research records the brain activity when music is the stimulus, whether played or listened to or danced to. The thesis indicates we humans (and some animals) are innately wired for music. Current research goes way beyond “listen to Mozart and increase your math test score.” With music being genetically a part of us, it is a sad state of affairs that politicians are cutting the funding for the study of music in our schools. Without music, part of our very souls die.

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

As a self proclaimed fairy lover, I was drawn to this book. I have read other fairy books and most authors follow the Midsummer’s Night by Shakespeare formula which to be honest, gets a little old… This one started out this way, half fairie girl gets sucked into the world of the Seelie and Unseelie courts. However, the writing style of this author keeps you interested regardless at that point.
Then, she got creative!
Pro: It’s called the Iron Fey series for a reason, she brought a unique twist to the story by introducing a line of characters and a plot that were both unique and interesting.
Con: The main girl , Meghan Chase, is a pretty typical YA character, as well as the love triangle she’s involved in with Ash being the typical bad boy you can’t have but want anyways and Puck being the best friend who’s always loved her but never told her kind of deal .
But all in all, I enjoyed the book and I am looking forward to reading the sequel, The Iron Daughter.

A quick, quiet read, just long enough to get you in the christmas spirit, 1225 Christmas Tree Lane is a visit with people who know how to celebrate Christmas. This warm story is set on a Christmas Tree Farm. The most recent visitors to Beth’s place are the 10 puppies left in a basket on her porch. Will the plan Beth’s daughter’s have work out? will Beth find a home for the puppies. I promies you this is one you will enjoy. Check it out at Buckley Library and get your holiday season off to a wonderful start with a good read.
